The National Endowment for The Arts released a new reading study as a follow-up to Reading at Risk. Per the NEA press release "To Read or Not To Read gathers statistics from more than 40 studies on the reading habits and skills of children, teenagers, and adults. The compendium reveals recent declines in voluntary reading and test scores alike, exposing trends that have severe consequences for American society." To view the NEA press release and access the report click on National Endowment for the Arts Announces New Reading Study. The study's overall finding is that American are reading less, with the resultant impact of reading less well which as civil, social and economic implications for the future. This study is gaining national attention with news stories in the Washington Post, Houston Chronicle, Boston Globe, Indianapolis Star, Minneapolis Star Tribune, and KOTV6 Tulsa among some of the news outlets reporting on it.
