Education Data by ArtG1 [January 02, 2009 13:17]

In November 2008 the Thomas B. Fordham Institute published a book of readings addressing issues associated with education data in the post NCLB era. Per the Fordham Institute the book's main points include. "America has made significant gains in education data. Yet many education-data systems remain archaic, cumbersome and non-comparable. Barriers to quality data are tough but surmountable. There are data 'gaps' to be filled." Titled "A Byte at the Apple: Rethinking Education Data for the Post-NCLB Era" the book's readings are available online in PDF form. A single copy of the book is available in paperback for free. One of the book's readings includes the Kansas State Department of Education's efforts to build a better data system. That reading can be accessed through the book's online PDF version, page 116, "States Getting It Right: the Cases of Kansas and Virginia." Practitioners interested in education data issues will find the readings insightful. For those of you preferring video rather than reading the printed word the Fordham Institute has several videos of panels discussing aspects of the book "A Byte at the Apple."
