The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) has released a new report analyzing NAEP data on how black and white students performed on the mathematics and reading assessments.
Titled, Achievement Gaps: How Black and White Students in Public Schools Perform in Mathematics and Reading on the National Assessment of Educational Progress the report highlights improvement in performance among black students particularly in southern states. In grades 4 and 8 mathematics Oklahoma was one of six states whose gap was less than the national gap in both grades.
In grade 4 reading Oklahoma's gap was less than the national gap.

The Center on Education Policy has released its third report on testing data among the 50 states and the resulting impact on the achievement gap. The report with its state profiles is availalbe at the CEP website.

The Schott Foundation for Public Education has released a report on the graduation rate among black males. It highlights a national graduation rate of only 47% among black males for the 2007-2008 school year.
