KnowledgeBases > The Migrant Education KnowledgeBase > Element 1: Know the Basic Requirements for Migrant Education Programs

Purpose:

The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Migrant Education "has several leadership initiatives in place to increase the capacity of state educational agencies, local school districts, schools, and other community organizations to continuously improve the educational outcomes attained by migrant children." These initiatives include identification and recruitment, comprehensive needs assessment, and student records exchange. Educators involved with migrant programs need to be aware of these initiatives and their local application.
