Curriculum mapping is not an end unto itself. Rather, it is a tool enabling teachers to understand what they are teaching within the context of the district's and school's instructional program.
Developed by the Great Lakes East Comprehensive Center for the Indiana Department of Education, this document provides a series of tools to assist districts and schools "develop and implement a high-quality curriculum." The document integrates curriculum mapping into the curriculum development process. Though intended for Indiana school districts, the document's concepts are useful to educators in other states as well.
This link to the Rush-Henrietta (New York) School District website explains how the district integrates curriculum mapping with its instructional process.
This resource provides examples illustrating how curriculum mapping is integrated with instruction.
