Districts with schools identified as "in need of improvement" have two obligations to the eligible students enrolled in a Title I school: provide such students the option to transfer to another public school served by the district and provide additional academic instruction through supplemental educational services (SES). The public school choice option must be offered no later than the first day of the school year following the year in which the assessments resulted in the school's identification as "in need of improvement." SES is to be provided by schools in the second year of improvement. A school must continue offering SES to its eligible students until the school is no longer identified for school improvement, corrective action, or restructuring.
