Guideline:

Under NCLB, a school identified as "in need of improvement" for two or more years is subject to corrective action by the district. Corrective action includes removing relevant staff members, implementing new curriculum, decreasing management authority, appointing outside experts to advise the school, extending the length of the school day or year, or restructuring the school's internal organization.

If, after one full year of corrective action, the school fails to make adequate yearly progress, the district must take action to restructure the school.

Schools "in need of improvement" that fail to improve are subject to an increasing range of corrective actions. This document provides the questions and answers on corrective action from the U.S. Department of Education's LEA and School Improvement Non-Regulatory Guidance.
