KnowledgeBases > The School Improvement KnowledgeBase > Element 2 > Activity 1 > Task 3: Identify Candidates for the School Improvement Team

Guideline:

Once the member criteria are determined, the principal should identify potential team members. In doing so, he or she should consider formal and informal leaders among school staff members and within parent organizations. Often, individuals functioning in non-official capacities may bring more influence to the team than those in formal leadership positions.

A broad range of stakeholders should be involved in the improvement process. This checklist may help the improvement team identify stakeholders in its community.

Excerpted from the National School Boards Foundation's Education Leadership Toolkit, these guidelines offer a list of recommended behaviors for effective team participation.

This link to a National School Boards Foundation's Education Leadership Toolkit reference identifies characteristics of people who would be potential members of a school improvement team. It may be useful to district and school leaders when selecting members for the planning team.
