KnowledgeBases > The School Improvement KnowledgeBase > Element 2 > Activity 5 > Task 2: Implement the Communications Strategy

Guideline:

Implementing the communications strategy involves contact with school staff members, parents, parent groups, leading community members, and local news media. Each constituency has different needs and interests. District staff members and principals need to keep those in mind as they implement the communications strategy. When communicating with national-origin language minority parents about school related matters, districts and schools must do so in a language parents understand.

Not everyone may be receptive to the message being conveyed. This document provides five recommendations for presenting difficult messages to audiences.

This U.S. Department of Education parent guide provides an overview of NCLB. It is offered in English and Spanish versions in HTML and PDF formats. The PDF format may be useful for sharing with parents.
