When reviewing curricula resources, questions always arise as to scientific basis and effectiveness. The Blueprints for Violence Prevention Project and the Hamilton Fish Institute each have undertaken a review of curricular resources on conflict resolution, substance abuse prevention, and violence prevention addressing those questions. Information on the programs reviewed is available at each of their websites. When reviewing such curricula resources, a visit to these websites may be useful. Blueprints for Violence Prevention The Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence (CSPV), at the University of Colorado at Boulder designed and launched a national initiative in 1996 to identify programs that are effective in reducing adolescent violent crime, aggression, delinquency, and substance abuse. Their project, called Blueprints for Violence Prevention, has identified 11 “Model” and 21 “Promising” prevention and intervention programs that meet a strict scientific standard of program effectiveness.
Hamilton Fish Institute The Hamilton Fish National Institute on School and Community Violence is a not-for-profit, non-partisan organization that is housed in the George Washington University Graduate School of Education and Human Development. It has analyzed existing models and research on school violence prevention to examine their effectiveness. The Hamilton Fish Institute identifies “Effective” and “Noteworthy” Programs.
