KnowledgeBases > Peer Review Dos and Don'ts

Do:

  • Read the entire draft through first before making any comments.  As you read the plan for the first time consider these general questions:
    • Are there sections that are confusing?
    • Does the plan follow a logical structure
    • Are the transitions between sections and paragraphs effective?
    • Does the language seem appropriate for its intended audience?
  • Focus on how the plan is supported (or not), rather than whether you agree or disagree with it.
  • Comment on specific examples of strengths and problem areas.
  • Try for balance and completeness in pointing out strengths, weaknesses, and problem areas.
  • Treat others' work as you would want your work treated.

Don't:

  • Use snippy comments such as "So what?" or "What the point?"
  • Confine your comments to mechanical details.
  • Make vague, global comments.
  • Rewrite for the writer.
