KnowledgeBases > Questions for Past Grantees
When gathering information about a potential funding source, it is helpful to contact past grantees to discover what made them successful. The following are some questions to ask:
- Did you call or visit the grantor before writing the proposal?
- Was there someone on the staff who was particularly helpful?
- Did you have any key advocates working on your behalf?
- Did the grantor review a pre-proposal or draft prior to submitting a final proposal?
- What did you find most helpful in writing your proposal?
- How close was your budget to the amount awarded?
- What would you do differently?
