KnowledgeBases > Questions for Past Grantees

When gathering information about a potential funding source, it is helpful to contact past grantees to discover what made them successful.  The following are some questions to ask:

  1. Did you call or visit the grantor before writing the proposal?
  2. Was there someone on the staff who was particularly helpful?
  3. Did you have any key advocates working on your behalf?
  4. Did the grantor review a pre-proposal or draft prior to submitting a final proposal?
  5. What did you find most helpful in writing your proposal?
  6. How close was your budget to the amount awarded?
  7. What would you do differently?
