KnowledgeBases > Timeline for Developing the Improvement Plan

Upon being identified as a school in need of improvement, the school has up to three months to develop or revise a school improvement plan to submit to the district. In doing so, the school must consult with parents, school staff members, the district, and outside experts. Upon receving the district's approval of its plan, the school must begin to implement it immediately.

Thirteen weeks is not much time to create a school improvement plan. The challenge the principal faces is to optimize the assistance of the school improvement team and determine how the existing school improvement plan can be updated to address the school's current improvement status. The following suggested milestones for each week are offered as a tool to assist the principal in keeping the plan development process on track. The timeline begins when the principal receives notification from the district that the school has been identified for improvement.
