Common Core Standards - Mathematics
This link to the Common Core Standards State Initiative website provides the mathematics standards by grade-level. These standards define what K–12 students should know and be able to do in math.
Common Core State Standards for Mathematics - What, How, When and How about YOU!
This link is to a Center on Instruction webinar. As noted at the website, "The Center on Instruction hosted a webinar on February 9, 2011, featuring Dr. Francis (Skip) Fennell who provided an overview of the Common Core State Standards and the intended impact on the field of mathematics." This webinar runs approximately 54 minutes.
Comparing the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics to the Recommendations of the National Mathematics Advisory Panel
This brief from Achieve, compares the Common Core State Standards in mathematics with the recommendations of the National Mathematics Advisory Panel. The brief's findings state the Common Core standards and the Advisory Panel's recommendations are "very well aligned."
Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications
This link to the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications provides resources for teachers which may be helpful with implementing the Common Core State Standards for mathematics. As noted at its website, "The Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications (COMAP)is an award-winning non-profit organization whose mission is to improve mathematics education for students of all ages. Since 1980, COMAP has worked with teachers, students, and business people to create learning environments where mathematics is used to investigate and model real issues in our world."
Model Course Pathways in Mathematics
This link to the Achieve website provides a series of model pathways for high school mathematics Acheived developed in partnership with the Common Core State Standards mathematics writing team.
National Science Digital Library Math Common Core Collection
The National Science Digital Library (NSDL) Math Common Core collection features digital learning resources that address concept and skills components of the Math Common Core State Standards. The collection is organized by grade level and domain, as defined within the Common Core documents.
Phoenix Rising: Bringing the Common Core State Mathematics Standards to Life
This link to a Hung-si Wu authored article describes the potential of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in mathematics. The article appeared in the Fall 2011 edition of American Educator. As noted at the Center on Instruction's website, "WU makes a case for why CCSS are important and why effort needs to be expended in ensuring that the standards are implemented."
Progressions Documents for the Common Core Math Standards
This link to the University of Arizona's Institute for Mathematics and Education provides documents describing the progression of a math topic across a number of grade levels, informed both by research on children's cognitive development and by the logical structure of mathematics. These documents may be helpful to teachers implementing the Common Core State Standards for mathematics.
Support Videos for the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics
This link to the Southeast Comprehensive Center (SEDL) website provides a series of support videos for the Common Core state standards in mathematics. The videos cover grades K - 12. As noted at the SEDL website, "The videos were created in collaboration with the states in the Southeast Comprehensive Center region based on their needs for professional development support for the implementation of the Common Core State Standards. Each video is an audiovisual resource that focuses on one specific standard and usually includes examples/illustrations geared to enhancing understanding. The intent of each content-focused video is to clarify the meaning of the individual standard rather than to be a guide on how to teach each standard although the examples can be adapted for instructional use." The states comprising the southeast region include Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and South Carolina.
Teaching Channel
This link to the Teaching Channel website provides links to videos of teachers modeling the Common Core State Standards. The topics addressed include mathematics and English language arts.
The Common Core State Standards in Mathematics in Grades 9-12
This link is to a Center on Instruction webinar. As noted at the website, "The Center on Instruction hosted a webinar on June 29, 2011, featuring Fred Dillon, who provided an overview of the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics in Grades 9-12, with a focus on the mathematical practices and five "strands". He reviewed two models and their accelerated options and described a reasoning approach to the materials that includes significant math opportunities for all students. He also demonstrated different approaches for students with different abilities and the reality of the fourth year mathematics." The webinar runs approximately 50 minutes.
